So you don’t want me to go easy on you either, right? You think you can beat this Shorty no matter how hard I try, so it should be fine for me to go all out.
Hmmmm? What makes you think I’m mocking you? I’m making sure we’re on the same page, is all.
[ she absolutely is. sorry. ]
Down the street and back again?
[ there’s a flash of light surrounding taiga, and as it dissipates she’s got a super adorable magical girl outfit on. the diet furry is on full display—in addition to her new ears and tail, taiga has cute little cat paws for feet. ]
[ This is officially the worst possible nickname she could have been given. Would she be able to get away with murder? As long as there was no one around to see, no one would miss a single guy... right? ]
Count of three.
Three... Two... One... Go.
[ Taiga gives the slightest pause before she takes off, as if she still wasn't sure Elliot was serious about the race. Then she bolts, sprinting full speed down the street. ]
[Elliot sprints after her. He's fast, but he's by no means a professional runner and he has powers that would give him an edge over Taiga.
It doesn't take him long to realize he's falling behind, but he can't lose to her after that! He presses on, feet connecting with the pavement roughly, as fast as he can.]
[ Victory! Taiga untransforms almost immediately after she crosses the finish, turning around to watch Elliot; in contrast to his exhaustion, Taiga's own breathing isn't nearly as labored, though she does take a moment to catch her breath. This is the moment where she's supposed to gloat and mock him for underestimating her, because he brought this on himself.
Taiga just lets out an impressed chuckle, sticking her hand out for a handshake. ]
Not bad, really. You're a lot faster than I expected.

Just confirming.

[Elliot scoffs.]
Are you mocking me? I'm not racing someone who isn't willing to put their all into it.

[…
Elliot opens his mouth. Closes it.
You’re kidding.]
Yeah. Let’s do this. You one of those cat people?

[ And she took offense to that. ]
N-no, shut the hell up! All that ma-matters here is the race!

[You know what? Whatever. He crouches into a running stance.]
Let’s go, Cat Girl.

She also knows how patronising that would feel, and how angry she would feel if someone took pity on her, so she continues running at a full tilt. ]

Elliot pushes himself to his limits. By the time they reach the finish line, he's panting, out of breath, and still several yards slower than Taiga.]
What the hell...
